Thinking Out Loud 27/02/2014

Wow, two posts in a row!  That’s pretty good for me these days :S  I have kind of been pushing my life to get a little busier these days, busy with friends and getting out more.  And I have to be honest that I am quite enjoying it.  So how are you doing?  How has your week been?  I am so happy that it’s Thursday because that means the last business casual day until casual Friday 😀  Well I feel like today is a good day to link up with Amanda and all the other bloggers and participate in…

1) I have really been enjoying getting out more on weeknights.  I have finally gotten over my “it’s too cold to go out” mentality.  I was starting to feel house bound and needed to DO SOMETHING!  So on Saturday we met up with some friends for a couple of beers and then headed over to the Loose Moose Theatre for a night of improve.  We really had a blast and I think another comedy night should be in our future.  On Monday John and I went out with friends to (FINALLY) see the lone soldier.  Oh my goodness, what an emotional movie.  If you haven’t seen it you really should.  I have to admit that the book, in my opinion, was better but that is usually how it goes.

2) I am currently writing at 8:15 on Wednesday night after doing a quick grocery shop.  I really needed to pick up some snack foods that didn’t include wheat.  I found some things but I am already REALLY missing my nightly bowl of cereal.  I am going to have to make some granola this weekend to satisfy my cereal and milk tooth.

3) I don’t know if I can make a whole month without wheat… these past two days have actually been really tough.  I hope it get’s better however with that being said my parents want to go out for an Italian dinner next weekend.  I am thinking I might have to give in for one night as I can’t pass up fresh pasta.  That is basically a sin.

4) I have finished the only two seasons of Downton Abby on Netflix.  Season 3 isn’t out until June… cruel cruel fait.  This is really sad and means I have to find another show to get into.  My lovely friend tells me Suits is a great show so that may be on the list.  Life is so tough!

5) It got up to 3oC today 🙂  it’s supposed to be a high of -22oC on the weekend 😦  WHY OH WHY IS THE GOOD WEATHER DURING THE WEEK!?

6) I am going for another massage today and this time they are going to try a hip release.  I felt so much better after getting my muscles worked on last week so I hope this fixes the last little niggles.

7) I had my first, albiet short, run on Tuesday and I felt on top of the world!  I felt a little pain on Wednesday morning so I am going to lay off running anymore until the weekend.  If all goes well I am hoping to sign up for the Calgary Half Marathon again in May.  Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me!

8) I can’t stop on odd numbers…. now I have writers block… well this counts as 8!

Have a great Thursday!

MIMM 27/01/2014

Hey there!  How was your weekend?  Are you ready to hit the ground running or were you hitting the snooze button this morning?  Does anyones else feel that Sunday nights are the shortest nights of the week?  Mine always seemed to get consumed with prepping food for the week or doing the laundry I procrastinated doing earlier in the weekend.  This weekend was really good and I feel like we got a lot accomplished so let’s take a peak into what is….

MiMMThanks again to Katie at Healthy Diva Eats for hosting!

Marvellous was… Getting takeaway food, with John and a friend, from the Himalayan for dinner Friday night.  As always the food was awesome and the company was great!  I have never ordered the same thing twice from this place and always am so happy with my choice!

My dad and John

Marvellous was… taking a walk in the beautiful sunshine and warm weather!  I could have seriously warn a T-shirt Saturday afternoon.  The paths were crowded with everyone getting out and enjoying the best day of the year!

Marvellous was… Celebrating my dad’s birthday at the Szechwan house!  My mom, John, and, I wanted to have a surprise dinner for my dad so we told him we were going to bbq steaks while she had already made reservations.  When they showed up to our house there was no food and I told him I decided not to cook haha.  He loves spicy and new foods and the Szechwan House always fits the bill.  We all come away with scorched mouths saying we should put some toilet paper in the freezer 😉 You can order milder but we like a 2

John somehow ended up with 4 forks…photo 3

I think the heat made him a little delirious

Marvellous is… Finally trying Julie’s Egg white and oatmeal protein pancake.  You should just go make one now!  I topped mine with PB, berries, coconut, and a little syrup.

photo 4

Marvellous was… Catching up with an amazing friend on Sunday and hashing out life.  It really was a highlight of the week.  I love being able to tell her anything and everything and always come away feeling so happy to have seen her 🙂

Marvellous is… John’s slow cooker Sunday meal!  Shredded chicken chilli with quinoa.  I think he found the recipe on the food network.  Sorry ladies, he’s mine!photo 5

I hope your weekend was just as marvellous!  Have a great day 😀

1) Did you get some outside time this weekend?

2) Do you do food prep for the week on the weekend?

A little more snow for ya?

Good morning! Good morning da da da da dum dum 😀  Just a little musical introduction for you to start your day.  How was your Monday?  Sorry about the late post yesterday, I was having some technical difficulties but I think I have them ironed out now.

Want to know what happened yesterday!?….. This….Bd5Hl5iCYAA8g-7

mmmmmm yay more snow…. and it was my favorite type, the un-forecasted HA.  It really makes me jealous of coworkers is Hawaii!  The winds were just a whipping last night but died down while John and I commuted to work and it was actually quite nice and almost warm.  Fast forward an hour and you have the above picture (I stole it from social media).  All of a sudden the windows were rattling and it sounded like little pellets were hitting the window.  I think my whole office let out a collected sigh of frustration.  Oh well, it made the morning extra cozy in the office 🙂

At lunch I decided to brave the outdoors to get to the gym were got a little cardio done and most of a NTC workout in.  I am not sure if it’s the cold or what but the sweat was just pouring off my face (TMI?) YECH but I guess in a good way.

I just need to reiterate how wonderful last nights dinner was and that if you like shrimp and spicy food you should make this!

Shrimp Creole

Recognise this photo from yesterday?

I had it warmed up for lunch yesterday and I think it might have been even better than last night 🙂  It really hit the spot and filled me up for the whole afternoon.

Have a great day!

1) Are you counting down the days until spring?  I really noticed that it is lighter already in the evenings!

2) Do you like spicy food?

3) Have you tried the Nike Training Club App yet?  If not you should!

Friday Flash Freeze Warning!

Hi friends!   Wow Friday just doesn’t seem the same when you’ve had a week off haha.  I can’t believe that I have a whole other week off after this too 😀  So I have some good and bad news…. The good news is we finally got our furniture from Crate and Barrel… the bad news is we have to send back our couch because it is damaged 😦 Gah so frustrating.  At least the coffee table that we bought is in good shape.

So John and I have been a busy pair today.  We have started to fix up the shower in the bathroom upstairs.  It was needing some new grout and sealing.  Let’s just say we’ve learned a ton about grout… Who knew!

We have had some good eats along the way as well today.  Breakfast featured 1It’s been a while since I have actually wanted this for breakfast.  I think I oatmealed myself  out over the last few weeks.  I topped this lovely bowl with apples, coconut, and peanut butter.

We then headed out to Rona to pick up our supplies to start on the bathroom and then back to our house to start our project.  I think it came along quite well today.  We have to let the grout and any areas were water made it’s way in to dry out before we start patching it up.  Half way through the scraping we broke for lunchphoto 2

Left over split pea and ham soup that I made for dinner last night and a slice of home made bread.  It really hit the spot but I grabbed half of a cookie and an apple afterwards for something sweet.

I was able to head out the the gym for a super quick work out and was able to snap this picture of a storm rolling in over the cityphoto 3

We are in a flash freeze warning, ya I wasn’t sure about what this was but it sounded pretty epic.  Evidently the temperature is going to drop quite dramatically from the pleasantly warm temps we have had lately.  If all the water that is on the sidewalks and roads freezes overnight things are going to get quite treacherous.  Makes me wonder what the roads are going to be like tomorrow morning when we head out skiing for the first time this year.

Have a great night everyone!

1) Have you ever had to return something you were really really looking forward to getting?

2) Have you had to do any home improvements lately?

3) What winter activities do you like?

My Better Late Than Never WIAW 18/12/2013

Well as I promised I am back with my official WIAW with eats actually from Wednesday.  Thank you to Jenn over at peas and crayons for hosting this lovely link up!wiaw fall into good habits button

So waking up today we found to our surprise (this is to sounds as sarcastic as possible) snow…. and cold… and more snow… sigh….  I really shouldn’t complain because I want a white Christmas but I really just wish the roads would clear up so I could ride my bike to work again!

Any who….

Pre-breakfast… photo 4

An old photo but I had a Christmas orange and a handful of homemade granola (recipe coming your way soon!)

After braving the weather I decided I deserved a Starbucks… a Blonde Roast coffee topped with Cinnamon  photo 2

Which accompanied my Breakfast…photo 4

overnight oats topped with apple, pomegranate seeds, peanut butter, milk, and more homemade granola.

This was shortly followed by a massive bananaphoto 1

Appetizing no?

That held me over pretty good until about 11.  So I thought I should have a substantial snack since I was hitting the gym at lunch.

Morning Snack…photo 2Plain yogurt, plain greek yogurt, and ricotta cheese.  I topped that with more pomegranate seeds, frozen fruit (thawed) and more granola HA I love the stuff!

After a good workout (5km run in 25min and a NTC arms workout) it was time for…

Lunchphoto 3

Left over Black Bean soup, some pita crackers, whole wheat toast topped with hummus and an apple.  I also had a few handfuls of veggies in our office kitchen.  I was then craving something sweet…

photo 4

A cherry caramel chocolate from Purdy’s and a couple dried apricots.  I later went back to the kitchen to munch on some peanut brittle.  That seemed to tame the sweet tooth.

We were let out of work early do to the snow storm so I shuffled my way to the mall to do some Christmas shopping before heading home.  It was semi successful.

I threw together a quick Brinner!photo 1

On the plate was a 1egg and 3? egg white omelette stuffed with sautéed veggies and cheese, toast with peanut butter and banana, and a side salad.  This was good but I am still have the munchies.  There will likely be some more food consumed this evening in the form of cookies or milk and cereal.

Well that’s my day of eats.  I hope everyone else had some pretty tasty food!

1) Brinner (breakfast for dinner) yay or nay?

2) Favourite pre/post workout fuel?

3) Do you get munchie at night time?

MIMM 16/12/2013 and a Packed Weekend

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIITS’S MONDAY!!!!  Usually I am not this jubilant about this day but this is the last Monday at work until my Christmas Holiday’s start and it’s 10 days until Christmas.  This girl needs to get her Christmas shopping face on! I have a few people done but the not shopped for list is way greater than the shopped for list.  I really should have started to get some more done on the weekend but it just didn’t happen.  Speaking of weekends, how was everyone’s?  Mine was really great so it will make for a really good…

As always, thank you Katie for hosting!

Marvelous is… Having a wonderful baking date with two amazing ladies!

I Ended up making these as my contributionI wish I could say I took that photo!  They did turn out looking much like the picture though, my photography skills would just not do them justice.

Marvelous is… The Hunger Games Catching Fire.  John and I went and checked out that movie FINALLY!  It was really really good to boot too.  I thought it was very entertaining and had some good acting as well.  I think that starting to read the books over Christmas is a must.

Marvelous is… Christmas parties!  John had his on Friday and we had a pretty good time but Oh My was it ever fancy and big!  I think there were over 700 people there of which John new about 40 and I knew about 1.5 haha.  Great time to meet some really great people and have some fun conversations.  I think I am getting old because my body began to shut down at around 11 (John says I was looking tired at 9) mostly due to a few glasses of wine that were helping to make me drowsy.  Speaking of Christmas parties, I have our companies Christmas lunch on Tuesday that I am really looking forward too.

Marvelous is… Getting a good long run done outside!  Just over 13km in lovely 9 degree temperatures!  Things will likely get icy in the morning this week though as everything begins to melt and then freezes over

And finally…

Marvelous is… Being able to count the number of days left until Christmas holidays on one hand

photo (1)

(not marvelous is the number of pictures I took this weekend…ooops)

1) If you celebrate Christmas when is your last day of work/school?

2) Do you have any Christmas parties coming up?  If so what is your favourite part about them?

3) Are you running outside still?

Friday Hardcoreness

Happy Friday!

You know what this means??????  It means 1 more week of work until the Christmas Holidays begin!  To say I am a little excited would be a bit of an understatement!  It’s really starting getting busy around these parts.  John’s Christmas party is tonight and that always proves to be a good time!  I have a cookies baking/swap date with a couple of amazing friends!  But I am not going to lie, this is starting to stress me out (ya life is tough).  I can’t for the life of me decide what I want to make.  I was thinking cookies but now I am thinking of a candy or a bar or some sort….DARN YOU PINTEREST!!!!  I figure I will know the right one when I see it!  But if you have any ideas let me know pretty please!  Below are a few that have caught my eye…

salted caramal bars cookierocky road

Sunday might be a lay low kind of day or my mom is going to come over for some wine/martini time and then Tuesday is my companies Christmas lunch.  And I really need to squeeze in some Christmas shopping to boot.

The last couple of days I have been a bottomless pit when it comes to food.  I am going to put it down to tons of goodies in the office more activity and colder days.  Speaking of activity John and I have met up a couple of times after work together to ride home and I have beat him up the hill both times!  MWAHAHHAHA.

Last night when I went down to the parking garage to get my bike to go home there was actually another bike down there!  And I judging by the helmet I think it was another lady high 5!

photo 2

And I wasn’t going to let a really cold make me miss my target of a full week of riding into work.  Below is how I looked coming into work this morning.  YA I hardcore… or dumb 😛 I think I still have some goggle face lines.

photo 3

And I really hope my Friday includes more of this…

photo 1

Hot coffee and chocolate covered toffee for the win!

1) Do you have any Christmas related plans this weekend?

2) What is your favorite Christmas goodie (sweet or savoury)?
