WIAW 05/03/2014 Bruno You Almost Killed Me

Well Wednesday is officially winding down.  I hope the fist half of the week has been enjoyable for everyone.  Mine has been busy and cold… so nothing really new there.  Since it is Wednesday and I have a phone full of food photos I may as well join in on the fun going on over at Peas and Crayons and contribute to WIAW.  This will be my second week of a wheat free WIAW and that means I have also made it over a week without wheat and you know what?  I don’t even miss it!!

Thanks so much Jenn for hosting 🙂

Breakfast: Before hopping on the bike to head into work I devoured half of a perfectly ripe grapefruit.  For some reason I usually only have them hanging around on weekends, I think that this will have to change.photo 1

Once I peddled my little legs to work I checked emails did some work and then dived into coffee and overnight oats with apple and PB on top.  That mug is my new favourite 🙂

photo 2

After my usual work through the morning I broke for snack one of a banana, not pictured but I am sure you know what the look like 😉

Real Snack 1 I was getting pretty hungry and had a lunchtime workout planned so I put together a yogurt/ricotta bowl with blueberries, strawberries, and granola.  I also had a hot cup of tea.  I am pretty sure I munched my way through a couple of Merry’s crackers and some almonds as well.photo 3

My workout consisted of 20min on the treadmill all while trying in vain to get my netfix to work.  Unfortunately the internet just didn’t want to cooperate.  After my warm up I completed the 30min Be Explosive NTC  workout.  It kicked my butt and my arms felt slightly broken.

By the time I got back to work I was getting Hangry.

Lunch: A massive salad filled with nuts, cheese, humus, and avocado.  It actually filled me up for about a minute before I went back for some more crackers and humus.

photo 4

Work, work, work,..

Snack 2 Apple, more crackers and humus (they are too good), and a couple jube jubes.  I know you know what an apple looks like but here it is anyway 🙂

photo 5

I left work and met John so that we could peddle home together into the sunset…. ya, movie material right there.

By the time we got home I was ready to eat anything that got in my way.

Dinner: A stir fry filled with veggies and shrimp over rice noodles.  I already know that I will be snacking tonight and may have already had a rice cake topped with PB.

photo

After dinner I quickly headed to the library to pick up The Wheat Belly Cookbook.  I am exited to see what it has in store.  On the way home Bruno Mars came on the radio and I almost drove off the road in my panic to change the station.  Bruno, you almost killed me!

Have a great night everyone and I hope the rest of the week is a good one!

Questions:

1) Is there any music artist you can’t stand?

2) Do you have a favourite plate/bowl/mug etc?

WIAW and Thinking Out Loud Combo 13/02/2014

Well hello there!  And hello Thursday 😀  I have had a pretty busy work day on Wednesday i.e. it is currently 7:45 pm and I am still working (at home).  Le sigh…..  So how is your week going?  I personally am shocked that we are one day from Friday WHOOP!  Does anyone have any plans for Valentines Day?  I will address our plans in todays combo of…

ANDThinking-Out-Loud

Thank you to both Jenn and Amanda for hosting these fantastic link ups!  I am going to try and combine these two fantastic days into one post!Okay well here is my first random thought… 1) Why is wordpress centring all my text?  Frustrating…..2) I am so proud of how Canada is doing in the Olympics!  We are putting up a really good showing for these games 😀  I can’t wait to watch some more events! Now how about some eats from Tuesday!Breakfast! photo 1-2 photo 3Overnight oats with PB, black berries, and strawberries.  All topped off with some milk and a hot coffee on the side.  Perfect start to the day!Snackphoto 4A really good apple!  I also had another cup of coffee.  And then the saddest part of the day happened…photo 2-1the last sip of coffee 😦Thinking out loud 3) I really like milk in my coffee but not cream because I don’t like the taste.  People always look at me funny if I say they offer a coffee and if they only have cream and no milk that I will take it black.  And then I always feel judged….Thought 4) I am pretty sure I also ate a banana in there as well.  Until a couple of years ago I used to HATE bananas, as in they made me gag.  Now I eat at least one a day, but only if they are ripe and getting little brown spots on the peelLunchphoto 5Not very exciting, but in the wrap was tuna, cheese, some veggies, and mustard.  I always heat them up so that the cheese gets melty.  On the side were some veggies, Food Should Taste Good chips, and hummus.  Thought 5) I love salads but I can’t even try to think about having one for lunch these days.  It’s just too cold for me to crave cold food.  I even have to warm up sandwiches for the to seem appealing.Thought 6) Even thought it’s been -26oC every morning this week John and I have biked in.  I can’t even describe how much better it is than paying $12 each per day and cramming onto the train.  Plus it gets the blood pumping in the morning.Afternoon Snackphoto 1-3A triple chocolate chunks ahoy cookie (or two ;)) and a cold glass of grapefruit juice mixed with soda water.  Perfect for an afternoon pick me up!  I am pretty sure I snacked on a few more chips as well.Thought 7) How do early birds catch the worms in the morning on freezing winter mornings when the ground is frozen?  It is this thought that makes me think we should all get up as late as possible in the winter.  Because the early bird starves to death in the cold.Thought 8) My blog celebrated it’s first birthday last weekend.  I am so happy that I have been consistent with it.  It’s been so much fun and I have met so many neat people 😀  It really is a bright spot of my day to sit down and blog.

Dinner

photo 2-2Dinner was an awesome chicken burger on a whole wheat bun.  On the side was a sweet potato with salsa and greek yogurt. I also had a big side salad for some greens.

Thought 9) I love ending my nights with tea.  I think I have tried all of Davids Tea desert teas!

Thought 10) John is now showing off his karate skills… makes me laugh.  Love him!

Bedtime snackphoto 2A home made granola bar!

Well that 10 thoughts and my eats!  I hope you have a great week day 😀

Questions:

1) Tell me one random fact about yourself.

2) Do you have a favourite olympic event?

Thinking Out Loud 29/01/2014

Hi there!  How are you doing today?  What’s new and exciting today?  I feel like I just wrote a Thinking Out Loud post, but here we go again.  As always, thank you to Amanda for hosting and to everyone that participates!

Thinking-Out-Loud

  • I feel like these past few day I have had trouble fitting in everything I want to do in my free time.  This includes blogging, shopping, reading, cleaning, friends… how has everything gotten so busy!?  Hopefully I can start catching up on things this weekend or find someone/invent a cloning machine.
  • I am starting to get the itch to travel… the question is where.travel
  • Is it odd that the only thing keeping me from changing gyms is that I need WIFI now?
  • Speaking of the gym, I was able to get in my first run in forever this afternoon with no pain!  Interesting since I felt it a little after Body Attack Tuesday night Fingers crossed that things are slowly healing.
  • I am thinking that if everything is feeling good for the next couple of weeks I will sign up again for the Calgary Half Marathon in May.  I ran it last year with John and LOVED it!  Now to get a better time (under 1:55).
  • I got an email from the Bay to Breakers run, in San Francisco that we signed up for, today.  This is making me really excited and we will be running it over my birthday weekend!  Is anyone else going to be running this?  It looks like a blast.
  • I am so hooked on the Hunger Games series now.  The first book is great so far and even though I have seen the movie, the book is definitely keeping me reading.
  • Our insurance company has been taking an extra payment from us since August.  They will be paying us back but this will keep me on top of my finances from now on!
  • I had to take the train home after work today due to snow… I MISSED MY BIKE RIDE!!  And I feel sad for my bike left in a parking garage overnight… poor thing 😦Bike-to-Work_0
  • I am really excited about going to the hockey game tonight!

Well have a great Thursday and let me know what some of your random thoughts are!

A day in the life

Wow guys!  I loved reading all of you breakfast ideas and comments on my post yesterday.  Thanks for all of you breakfast thoughts, I might try all of them in the next few work days.  So how was everyone’s Friday eve?  I know mine was busy busy busy but I did try to snap a few photos through out my day so I could bring you my first day in the life post!  Prepare to be astounded and amazed 😉 But seriously I managed to take a bunch of photos so I am proud of that 😀

6 am (the ugh hour)

photo 1Yup it’s dark 😦 shouldn’t I still be sleeping!? If you look really close you can see my pillow.  I am not a snooze button person so I am out of bed pretty quick after this.   I think it’s like ripping off a bandaid

6:15 (the getting ready time)photo 2

First some moisturizer.  I love the “It’s Potent” by benefit and Clarins HydraQuench.  It really makes my skin feel moisturized all day and the “It’s potent” make all my dark circles go away 😀photo 3

The makeup comes next with a little bit of finger creeping in.

6:20 (all dressed up WITH somewhere to go)

photo 5

Today’s outfit features a thermal long sleeve, lulu lemon tights, ski socks, and regular socks.  Don’t worry I change when I get to work.  After this I usually head down and grab a nibble and publish my post I wrote the night before.  Usually I get a chance to glance at the news as well.

7:00 (ANDDDDD THEIR OFF)photo 2

Usually around 7 or just before we are on our bikes and peddling to work

7:20 (deja vu)photo 3

Arrive at work…. Wasn’t I just here!?

8:15 am (starting to get Hangry)

After a quick change, check email, and get started on the work day I scrounge up some breakfast and COFFEE!  photo 4photo 5

work, work, bathroom break, work and then…

11 am (snack attack!)photo 1 photo 2I feed my coffee addiction once again and munch a banana.  I then decided that wasn’t enough and needed a granola bar (home made).

work, work

12:10pm (I go to the gym… I work out)

The old leg is still sore so I jumped on the elliptical while watching Netflix for 40min followed by a few weights.  No picture because I always get self conscious.

1:30pm (Hangry!!!!!!!)photo 3oops…. uhhhh on the plate was a wrap stuffed with black bean chilli and cheese with veggies and a few Food Should Taste Good chips.  This was pretty awesome but I went back for a square of chocolate and a handful of caramel corn.  Our work kitchen is a very dangerous place.

work, work, bathroom break, work

3pm… I am pretty sure there was a snack somewhere in there

5pm (I’m freeeeeeeeeeee 😉 actually I don’t mind work!)

Hopped on the bike to pedal home into the sunset!  WOOOOOO it was so pretty!

photo 4photo 5

6:00pm (Hangry!)photo 2

John headed off to Yoga, so I was on my own for dinner.  I decided to go with an omelette (only half shown), toast with PB and fig jam, carrots, celery, and humus.  A little random but very delicious.  I am not going to lie, I have been grazing since dinner.

7pm (A sad time)

I headed off to the Library to pick up my copy of the Hunger Games only to find the library closes at 5pm on Thursday.  5pm?  really? @#$% oh well I also had to make a stop for groceries so it’s not all a waist.  For a bonus strawberries were on sale!

7:45pm

Time to shower off the days grime and give the hair a good wash followed by folding some clothes that had been sitting in the dryer for a few days

8:00pm

Writing up this blog post with a cup of tea and a chocolate

8:45pm

heading down to watch an episode of Breaking Bad

9:30-10pm

Reading news/blogs and going to sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Well, that about sums up my day.  If you’ve made it to the end you deserve a cookie 😉

I hope everyone has a great Friday and an amazing weekend!

Questions:

1) What is your favourite part of the day?

2) How many hours do you work a day?

WIAW 22/01/2014 and Oh the Injury!

As I was writing the title of my post I almost fell out of my chair, how can it possibly be Jan 22 already?  It felt like Christmas and New Years were just last week!  Time flies when you’re having fun eh?

I haven’t mentioned it yet, but I have been battling some really bad IT band issues this past week or so.  It was getting so bad that it was actually hurting just walking down the street.  I am putting it down to overuse and not a lot of muscle/band TLC.  I think I have it on the mend now but I have been really missing the running.  I have been on the spin bikes quite a bit the last few days and I am just so glad for my iPad and Netflix.  I am running out of training ideas though.  I am getting board of core/upper body workouts 😦  I guess if I look on the bright side, I am still able to do those!  But I am still a little frustrated…

But lets move on to more important things, like FOOD!  HAPPY WIAW Sunday!  Thanks for  hosting Jenn!!

Well now, I love posting my weekend eats once in a while.  I always love my food a little more when I put a little more effort into it.

Breakfastphoto 2

John made pancakes… I ate pancakes!  These ones are so good.  They are made with mashed banana and whole wheat flour among some other tasty ingredients.  While they were cooking I plopped in some blueberries.  I topped mine with peanut butter, a little maple syrup, coconut, and chia seeds.  On this side I seared apples slices dusted with cinnamon.  I wish all mornings could start like this.

These actually held me over until Lunch!

photo 3

I guess the filling was shy and didn’t want to be seen!  In the wrap was tuna, cheese, mustard, tomato, pickle, and spinach.  I decided to grill the wrap and get the cheese all melty inside.  I also had some leftover salad on the side.  This made for a really filling lunch but I was still ready for a mid afternoon Snack

photo 4

A nice hot cup of tea and on of these home made granola bars (x2).  Seriously like I’ve said before, these things are addictive.  I think I will need to make a new batch in the near future.

Before I knew it the day was almost done and it was time to sit down to Dinner

photo 5

For tonights meal I made black bean burgers topped with brie cheese and served in a whole wheat bun.  These things are really pretty tasty and I had to go back for another patty.  We also had sweet potato and salad.  And I can’t finish a day without some form of Dessert

photo (1)

Home made chocolate that John made on Saturday.  He is really turning out to be quite the chef!

Questions

1) Have you ever had an IT band injury?  What did you find helped it to heal faster?

2) What was the best thing you ate this last week?

Think Out Loud 09/01/2014

Hi there and how’s it going today?  I am starting to feel really awkward for the opening sentence of my blog.  I might start doing something random to open my thought flow tomorrow!  So how was everyone’s Wednesday?  Mine was pretty good and I had some good time for pondering so today’s Thinking Out Loud Thursday should be interesting!  Thanks Amanda for hosting and to all the other bloggers for participating.

Thinking-Out-Loud

1) The plumber came yesterday to fix our water heater!  And we have a feeling that we don’t owe anything.  There was no invoice left, no credit card asked for…. SCORE!  It must have been under warranty still and it only took 10min to fix.  My mum was an angel and came over to our house to let the plumber in at 9 a.m.  after her flight got delayed and didn’t arrive until 2:30 that morning.

2) I must have had the most minor of colds the last few days which is awesome.  My throat started hurting last Friday night and was really bad Saturday and most of Sunday so I thought i was going to be in for a doozy.  However, all of the symptoms seemed to of evaporated aside from a slight stuffed up nose but I’ll take it 😀

3) The first thing that I did yesterday after work was throw on a load of laundry.  With the hot water tank out of order for the last several days my clean clothes supply was dwindling.  I love clean clothes!  Oh and we can also turn on the dishwasher tonight, that thing has been sitting quite full for some time now.  I love clean dishes!

4) I got out for a lovely run at lunch yesterday as the temperature warmed up to +2!

photo (5)

How lovely is that!  It was about 9km or so (no garmin) but so much better than running on the treadmill.  I felt really strong and fast!

5) I have been chatting to a few people that had gone on hot weather vacation over Christmas and it has made me jealous.  I want to sip a drink while drifting down a lazy river…. You can’t keep me from dreaming 😀  I could really do with a beach vacation soon and one of those all inclusive types too.

6) I haven’t been to yoga in weeks so I am really looking forward to our class tonight!  See you soon Ning!

7) I have the best of intentions to actually do some meal planning this weekend and I have to try some new recipes.  I am getting so sick of the my meal rotations, it is time to shake things up a bit!  I would like to try some new casseroles or curries or anything really.  If you have a recipe or an idea that you think I should try please let me know!

8) I am really looking forward to my friends baby shower this weekend.  She is having a little boy in February and we can’t be more excited for her and her husband.  It’s really funny how bridal showers and weddings have turned into baby showers and births.  But I like it 🙂

9) These last few days the apatite has ramped up again.  I am putting it down to getting back on the bike to and from work.  The amount of food I am eating is making me a little nervous but I just trust my body is asking for it because it knows what to do with it.  I try to stay away from the cookies and chocolates that are still hanging around but sometimes that is the only thing this body wants.  Good thing I love food!

10) John made chicken burgers last night and they were so good!  I smothered mine in Cheddar cheese, relish, some veggies and of course mustard.  The whole wheat buns that we get from our organics store at the end of the street are really really good.  I love how the bag states that they are made with butter.  On the side John made salad and  grilled up a sweet potato that I topped with salsa.  MMMMM really hit the spot but like I said in my thought 9 I was still feeling a big case of the munchies!

photo (6)

Questions:

1) When you are still hungry after a meal what do you usually like to go for?  I have been caught multiple times with my hand in the cookie jar

2) Do you feel like you have better runs outside rather than inside?

3) Where do you look for inspiration when you are in a meal rut?

Active Thursday and Weekend Plans

friday

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!  I hope everyone’s day is off to a great start.  I know mine is as I am currently sipping on a hot coffee and chowing down on some apple pie overnight oats 🙂

Yesterday was a pretty full day that started off with another yogurt bowl breakfast that was the same as the other days but…. for this batch I decided to add cinnamon to the dry shredded wheat, genius!    photo 1

I also got in a short lunch time workout that consisted of one of the arm burners from the NTC App.  Lets just say that I am feeling some pain today.  I also got in a yoga session after work which felt great after lifting so many heavy boxes on the weekend (Thanks Ning!).

I ended the day with a nice cup of hot tea and a bed time snack of cereal and milk and a little modern family.  Man that show cracks me up!photo 3photo 2

So what does everyone have planned for the weekend?  Are you taking it easy, are you going to be busy, or are you a little of both?  I know in our house it will be a little of both.  The weekend will start relaxing as I have a message on the books this afternoon followed by a lovely glass of red wine with my name on it!  And then there is more unpacking to be done, more things to be bought, and friends to see.  I also have some meal plans that I want to execute that may involve a slow cooker and pork!  Oh and it has been almost a full week of riding the bike into work and I am physically exhausted.  I can not wait for some R n R this weekend.

Oh and I just want to say how amazing it is to be able to ride my bike into the sunrise in the morning and into the sunset in the evening, all along a winding river….

Have a great day!

Questions:

1) have you ever used a slow cooker?  What have you made?

2) what are you looking forward to this weekend?

3) What does you average night time routine look like (again, let’s keep it clean :))
