Love that show!

Is anyone planning anything special tonight? The husband and I are going to just be what some may consider “lame” tonight and take a walk around our future neighbourhood and check out the kiddies costumes. Speaking of costumes, I had the biggest laugh this morning at the gym (it’s always great when your morning can start off with a full out belly laugh at 6 am). The guy who usually checks everyone in at the front desk was dressed up in the most ridiculous sun dress. He really always makes my day. The other funny costume that I saw was a lady dressed up as a unicorn. Brings back memories of when my mum dress me up as a unicorn…. maybe I can unearth the photo this evening.

Today really flew by but I have had a craving for chocolate for basically the entire day!  Sorry for the short post.  I hope everyone has a spooktacular Halloween!

WIAW #2 and a Few Random Thoughts

Well look at us back at another Wednesday.  I am officially just cresting the hump and getting ready for the downward slide to the weekend!  Before I get onto my WIAW post I just wanted write down a few very random things before I forgot them…

  1. I have decided I am not a take a picture of my workout/Garmin/machine stats kind of girl.  Great on those who do!  I’ve tried but I just seem to consistently forget to or feel too awkward.  That being said…
  2. I did a good 10k run on the treadmill this morning and it felt great.  It was one of those I was even sweating after showering kind of runs.  WOOO
  3. A strong desire to head to States on a shopping trip is creeping into my bones.  I think this was mostly brought on by talking to a lady at the gym this morning about her vacation to Florida.  Just slightly jealous of the outlet shopping she did.  To be honest though, I would likely come back with more food from Trader Joes than I would clothing.
  4. On the topic of cravings…. can we talk about Fro Yo?  I am getting from the realms of wanting to needing…. Yikes!

Well thanks for listening.  Now onto WIAW with a big thanks to Jenn for hosting!

photo 1In the bowl: plain Greek yogurt, regular plain yogurt, banana, black berries, strawberries, grapes, shredded wheat, and Dorset cereal (love that stuff).  On the side I had the rest of the banana and my first coffee.  This sure tasted good after the 10km run!

Snack 1: photo 3 A super juicy navel orange and some rice crackers (not pictured)photo 2Coffee number 2!  And no wonder I was starving at lunch time, that isn’t enough to hold this girl through the morning.

 photo 4photo 5

Lunch consisted of a good ‘ol tuna wrap, veggies and an apple.  I still had the munchies after that so I also chowed down on those Bunny Grahams.  I’m telling you those are not half bad!

Snack 2:

photo 1

A small mug of Shredded Wheat and Dorset cereal with pomegranate seeds and coconut almond milk mmmm.  That fuelled my walk home from work.

photo 2 photo 3Dinner was a one egg and two egg white omelette with sautéed onion, red pepper, mushroom and spinach.  I deglazed the veggies with balsamic vinegar before adding it to the eggs along with some fresh goat cheese….drool.  I dished that up alongside a piece of PB&J Toast and some left over salad.

Dinner didn’t really fill me up so I munched on some raisins and dried cereal while I prepared a batch of pumpkin muffins.  These muffins might be a little too healthy… we’ll see how they turn out.

Well that’s it for my second WIAW.  I hope everyone had some really good eats today!

What is the best thing you ate today?

What is one random thing I should know about you?

What are your favourite Fro Yo toppings?

3 Weeks Today!

Hey guess what day it is!!!!  It’s 3 weeks until the possession date of our new house.  Why do I think that this is going to be a looooooooong 21 days.  Well I guess that still gives us a good amount of time to pack.  But I mean really, we all know what’s going to happen PROCRASTINATION!  Hopefully not but we’ll see how things go.

So did everyone have  a good Tuesday?  What was the best/most interesting/entertaining thing that happened?  For me there wasn’t too much going on today.  I did get in a good workout thanks to Annette, you should go wish her a big congratulations on her lovely baby girl!  It was a great upper body workout which left me with some energy in my legs for my 10k run that I have on the books tomorrow.  I really want to try out this workout from Julie on Thursday, it looks like it will go fast and turn into a good sweat fest!

Sorry for the lack of pictures today.  It’s been a busy day.  By the time I got home it was time for a quick dinner before hitting up the grocery store.  I love getting groceries but I am not a fan of putting them away and going back and forth from the car to our apartment when it’s cold out.

To make up for the lack of picture I will leave you with this fun video

I can’t wait to join you tomorrow for another instalment of WIAW.

Wow!  Did anyone see where Monday went?  The day went so fast I think I almost missed it!  I hope that everyone has had a great Monday to open the week and that your weekend was stellar!

Well with it being Monday and all I guess it is time for another instalment of MIMM thanks to Katie! But first I must apologize for the lack of photos, there really is no excuse other than laziness.

Marvellous is…. curling up in the evening with a hot bowl of Black Bean Chilli that the husband made.  Topped with Greek yogurt and some grated cheddar cheese…

bb chiliWith a lovely whole wheat roll on the side, made with BUTTER as the package said 😉  We got these from the little organic store by our new house.  I think they are either mades especially for the store or they actually make them there.  Boy, they are some of the best soft rolls ever!

Marvellous is…. having enough left overs of the chili for two dinners (now in the freezer) and thinking how good this meal will be after a day out skiing.

Marvellous is the first snow of the season!  I love how quiet it is at night and how crisp the air is!  Plus it means that the ski season is fast approaching!

Marvellous was… sleeeeeeeeeping last night.  I can’t believe how good that sleep was.  I don’t think I would have woken up for anything in the world.

Marvellous is… knowing that in 3 weeks tomorrow we will have possession of our new house!!

Marvellous is getting your wedding photo USB from your photographer and then opening the box to also find a chocolate bar, a framed photo, and about twenty photos printed off.  We won the best photographer contest 😉 THANK YOU ORANGE GIRL!!  Kirstie and Kevin are two of the most amazing people, we are so happy they could capture our special day!

I hope everyone else had an equally marvellous Monday and weekend!

Wait I have one more!

Marvellous is typing up this blog post while listening to some soft Jazz and sipping a hot cup of tea.

What’s marvellous in your Monday?

Do you have an activity and meal that seem to go together?

I hope everyone had a great weekend and is enjoying their Sunday night. I know I will be ready to snuggle down on the couch tonight and indulge in a little Walking Dead! Oh and just in case you were wondering, I actually got some sleep last night so I didn’t feel like the walking dead today WAHOO!

Well winter officially reared it’s ugly/beautiful (all depends on your outlook) head today. We woke up with a good rain this morning and then this happened…

Yup that’s right 10cm or so of snow. And no, I didn’t lie about the weather we were having the last couple of days. In Calgary, if you don’t like the weather just wait five minutes. All this snow and cold called for a nice warm breakfast.

image_2A nice warm bowl of steel cut oats. In the mix was apple, cinnamon, nutmeg and then topped with peanut butter, coconut, raisins and kasha. And of course my coffee with frothed milk X2. I love me some weekend breakfasts.

For most of the day we were furniture shopping. I think a lot of people stayed in today because of the weather. The roads were almost empty except for a few including this crazy person.

image_1Seriously!? Can you see anything? I really want to smack people that not only endanger their own lives but the lives of others as well. Very selfish if you ask me.

Anyways, I digress. Furniture shopping was great. We came away with some great ideas.

After we got home I snuck in a quick cardio session at the gym and then completed 8 minute abs

Total 80/90’s throwback but it sure is a good workout! Plus who can’t love those blue spandex pants!?

Well time to grab a small snack before dinner.

Have you had snow yet?

What do you like to eat for breakfast on the weekend?

Have you ever tried 8 minute abs?

Have a great night!

A Very Warm Saturday

ohhh Saturday, how much I wish I could have enjoyed you more if I was able to get some sleep.  Yes another night of phone calls=another day of exhaustion.  If all goes well I should get in a good nights sleep tonight.  It will feel so lovely!

So today started off with work for a half hour or so followed by banana pancakes and coffee.  John whipped up the batter for the pancakes and the coffee while I worked.  This was the finished product.

sat breakyI topped my pancakes with peanut butter, coconut, and chia seeds.  I also tossed some apples and bananas in the pan while the pancakes cooked, that’s what my cakes are topped with.  On the side a much needed cup of coffee with frothed milk and cinnamon.

After breakfast we headed to my mom’s art show.  It was great!  There was lots of art and it was quite busy.  I will have to find out how it went and if she sold any paintings.

We came home for a quick lunch and then headed over to the house where we were able to meet the owners who informed us they were interested in selling some furniture.  They are wonderful people and I am so glad we had a chance to meet.  They also gave us a letter the neighbour had written us about how she is so excited to welcome us to the neighbourhood and to let us know if we have any questions about the property.  I really think we will be happy in our new home.  And yes, I think we will take advantage of taking some of their furniture off of their hands.

And guess what…. FINALLY got a run in!  It wasn’t anything super fantastic but it was nice to get some km’s in while the temperature was high and the sun was out.

sat sun

Tomorrow is going to be a completely different story.  Winter sounds like it is going to make an appearance overnight.  I don’t know if I am truly ready for -4 and snow.  Send warm thoughts our way.

Fun Fact Friday #2!

Insert catchy terrible song here… I don’t mean any offence to anyone who really likes this song.

How the heck are you doing on this lovely day!?

Well I said I would be back for an update so here I am. A day can seem soooooooo long when you haven’t really been sleeping, all I can do is hope that tonight I might get a full nights sleep in. Fingers are so crossed. I also wanted to mention that I have started posting some of my favourite finds. These are things I have come across in life that I have loved ranging from hotels and restaurants to recipes, books, and places. I will keep this list updated with the links to where you can find more information on them. I hope that you will be able find these useful and maybe discover some new favourites too! And hey, you have some fav’s I should know about? Send me a note or leave a comment!

But now let’s get down to business with….

Fun Facts Friday

  1. I have my second Kabocha squash ready to be turned into something yummy this weekend. I will share the recipe with you that I decide to use.
  2. The seller of the house we bought just let us know that they will be selling all of their furniture and that we can go and take a look to see if we want any of it! SCORE! They had some really nice stuff and we would be so happy to own it!
  3. Random days off from exercise are not too shabby. Yesterday I didn’t manage to make it to the gym as I was way too tired. But it felt good to just kick back and relax
  4. It got up to 23 degrees in Calgary yesterday… is it summer or fall, I am starting to get confused!
  5. John makes the best homemade pizza ever, and he is making this for dinner tonight. I am going to leave a space for a pizza photo to insert later!

  6. Is the number of hours of sleep I have had in the past 48 hours…. zzzzzzzzzz for someone who needs more than 6 hours of sleep a night, I am finding this kind of hard. Day to day activity becomes so hard when you are run down. Plus as an added bonus, as I was looking at my computer screen at 3 am a spider scurried across my keyboard.
  7. I suffer from arachnophobia. The spider in fact 6 was not appreciated and has yet to be found :l
  8. Our wedding photo USB stick is ready to be picked up from the post office. It came earlier this week and I really need to get on picking that up. Look out for a few photos to pop up over the weekend.
  9. I have a new love called the foam roller. It has taken us WAY too long to become friends!
  10. The number of km’s I plan to run tomorrow!

Well there we are ! 10 fun facts about my week. It was a little work dominated so hopefully next Friday will be a little more interesting.

And just because….

and… Anyone having Chinese food tonight?

(This is a little PG)

What are you most looking forward to this weekend?

Where was the best pizza you ever had? What toppings did it have?
